Houston Airports TNC Under Siege - Part Three (Rides to Die For)

Hello again readers.  Today's final installment of this 3-Part series dives into the topic of vehicle quality and safety.  Recently, Uber has announced that they now accept vehicles that are 2002 or newer for X and XL as the minimum requirements.  Mind you, Select is 2008 or newer, SUV/Black are 2011 or newer.  They sent us all notices in our app as well as posted online.

So with the combination of the bill signed by Governor Abbott removing all City regulations and Uber now accepting much older vehicles, all standards have pretty much gone out the window.  It's bad enough that due to low low rates, a significant population of drivers are driving on worn tires with little tread.  Cracked windshields don't get repaired.  Cars are now showing up to pick up airport passengers (and other in-town as well) with body damage including crappy shop jobs, dents, duct taped bumpers, busted headlights, and who knows what else.  Passengers have started reporting on problems with vehicle quality and safety.

Below are pictures that have been taken by fellow drivers of what you can expect from a growing population of POS Ubers on the road.  Surely Uber would have your safety in mind?  Well.....maybe..... maybe not!

The last picture was posted by the driver himself, complaining about getting a flat at the Bush TNC lot.  But it was already waaayyyyyyy past the point of needing to be replaced due to the tread being worn to hell.  I think a face palm is in order here.😆😆😆😆😆😆

Comments from other drivers in the Uber Facebook Groups

"A few weeks ago my neighbor requested Uber guy arrived car was in accident never fixed and car was in bad shape I told her to email uber and not get in the car... she took a picture and reported the guy.. uber has gone down hill big time they need to leave Houston"

"Passengers in Austin have noticed and don't like it. They are ordering more select and XL just because of that they said or taking Lyft because they have better cars lmao all weekend Lyft RideAustin and Fasten surged but nothing on Uber! It was almost like Austin was saying F*ck Uber lol"

"I have a relative with a DWI that is allowed to drive for Uber, but NOT Lyft.. something to consider when choosing a ride."

"I have seen so many bald tires at the airport lot, its unreal"

"Really? Picking up pax from the airport when you're on a donut tire? WTF is wrong with you? There's 2 of you idiots in the Bush TNC lot. That is fucking dangerous."

Another driver posting after a driver posted they've been hit by another car - "If your car still works, fuck it. I got hit superbowl night and had a large dent and paint chip on my front bumper... still worked. Needed money!!"

"I'm an Uber Black, I hate to say this but thanks to all of the bad shit going on with the I responsible Uber/Lyft driver I'm getting more ride request. Uber black is still regulated by the city because of the Limo licensing which Uber Black must have, to all the shitie UberX, UberXL, dirty cars thank you keep up the good work as I will get more requests. With all this said there are also bad Uber blacks car, I will will say "get your shit together asshole, you are making us look bad" thank you all."

What can you do?

1)  Don't get in the car.  Cancel the trip.  If you're in the car, get out and report to Uber on your app right away.  There is a chance that Uber may deactivate the driver's account, thus you save a life.
2)  Go online and ask for a refund.  Explain about the state of the vehicle.  Here's the link.  https://help.uber.com/h/ce11768c-c469-4a75-bb02-abc55ad15fa2
3)  While you're at it, request that the driver be permanently deactivated.  Why not?  If they can't take care of their ride, what makes you think they know how to drive?  Drivers like me, who take care of our cars can do with less competition anyways and we'll thank you for it!
4)  Rate the app on Google Play.  Tell them what kind of car came to pick you up.  Uber needs to know that this shit like this doesn't fly with the passenger population.

Remember readers..... times are tough.  You can't rely on anyone else but YOU to keep you and your family safe on the roads of Houston.   You don't want to end up in a body bag due to the gross negligence of drivers that probably should have never been allowed on the Uber platform in the first place.
